What Is LEED?

“Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design”

The LEED program, sponsored by the US Green Building Council, is a system of rating 'environment friendly' construction projects from a whole building perspective. This integrated approach has been formed to answer our global need for conservation of resources.  The air we breathe…the water we drink…how we keep warm…or the light we use to read.

All of these basic needs are altering our environment due to the use of toxic building materials or because of inefficient construction design. Therefore, the LEED program uses a rating system to score the 'green' efficiency for water, air, energy, site, materials and innovation used by builders. In addition, a sixth category,  Innovation & Design Process, addresses those environmental issues not included in the environmental categories such as acoustics, community enhancement, education, and expertise  in sustainable design.

Projects are classified as “Platinum, Gold, Silver or a minimum of “Certified.”
